Recognisable symptoms and possible repair procedures
These are examples of symptoms we can investigate. A symptom can have several causes; examples are not claims of a manufacturing defect and do not apply to every model.
Alpha α6400/α6500: “Camera Error. Turn power off then on.”
This is a general error message, not proof of a stabiliser or shutter failure. It cannot provide a diagnosis without inspection.
Our inspection approach: We reproduce the symptom while checking power, the lens and operating conditions, then inspect relevant assemblies and connections.
Cyber-shot: lens will not extend or retract
After impact, sand exposure or jamming, do not push or pull the lens by hand.
Our inspection approach: We inspect guides, gearing, motors, position sensors and flexible connections. Repair options depend on damage and parts availability.
Video camera: USB or HDMI connection drops
We first distinguish cables, settings and external equipment from a fault in the camera.
Our inspection approach: We inspect the connector, solder joints, protection and communication circuits. Controller damage may need attention as well as the connector.
Check the official Sony documentation ↗ for model-specific messages and limitations. The repair possibilities described here are our inspection approach, not manufacturer instructions for DIY repairs.
What to include in your enquiry
Send the full model name, camera mount where relevant, exact error message and when the problem occurs. Tell us about impact, liquid exposure, previous opening and any adapter or additional equipment. A short video can help explain an intermittent fault.
We first establish the cause and check the required parts. Not every model or type of damage can be repaired; we discuss options, price and an estimated turnaround before work starts.
Our workshop is at Milorada Miškovića 23, Banjica, Belgrade. We are open Monday–Friday, 09:00–16:00. You can speak or write to us in English. Before sending equipment, agree which accessories to include.
